Course Description

Understand agile and the Scrum framework quickly and easily

You've probably heard of agile and Scrum, most people have. If you are completely new to it, the terms and concepts might seem a bit overwhelming. Even if you've been doing Scrum for a while, we find people have different interpretations of what these words mean. Many people learned about Scrum by doing some form of it, but have never actually been trained on what the Scrum framework is and what the purpose of the meetings and roles are. As a result there are many things about Scrum that are misunderstood.

This course is for everyone. People completely new to agile looking for a quick overview and teams who have been doing it for a while looking for a refresher on the basics.

We've also structured it to be something you can do in a single sitting of 1 hour, or over a week watching only a few minutes at a time. We've included exercises you can do to deepen your learning.

What You'll Learn

In this course, you will:

  • Learn about the agile manifesto and what agile means
  • Understand how Scrum relates to agile and other frameworks and practices
  • Know that the Scrum framework is comprised of 3 roles and 5 meetings
  • Be able to identify key responsibilities of the 3 Scrum roles: Product Owner, Scrum Master and Team
  • Understand the key purpose of each of the Scrum meetings (Backlog grooming/refinement, Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective)
  • Know common mistakes teams make when implementing Scrum, and our key coaching tips to avoid these

Created by Karen Greaves and Samantha Laing of Growing Agile, this course is infused by more than 8 years of experience training teams in Scrum across the world.

The class is a great review of the Scrum basics for anyone that wants a refresher or is new to Scrum. It also does a good job of covering the purpose of Scrum, so it's very useful to Scrum Masters or other Scrum participants as a reminder of the vision and purpose of Scrum since it's easy to forget and get off track when busy at work.

Clear and straightforward breakdown of SCRUM from high level concept to the daily processes. I particularly liked the definition of good vs bad practices and how to identify and respond to them. As a non-developer working with agile teams I found this course very useful in filling the gaps in my understanding of SCRUM.
